I'm in an emergency situation where I need to get eight matching
1TB SATA drives (3.5") as soon as possible, but I'm cost-limited.
This is for personal/SunHELP use.

Looks like new Seagate Barracuda drives are $45ish, the NAS versions
are $54ish.. but I'm looking at almost $400 if I buy new.

That would be preferred but at this point I'll take what I can get. Normally
I would buy new, but I have to start paying copay for my chemo meds
starting Jan 1st.. :(

So, anyone have a pile of 1TB (or greater, but everything has to
match) drives in a closet that they'll let go cheap? Please let me
know..

Bill, I have a stack of 40 that came in my replacement X4540. They are
all used and of unknown age, but I can totally set you up with eight or
ten. They are all Sun-badged Seagate ST31000340NS drives, AKA
ST31000NSSSUN1.0T.

That would be *great*; I can use as many as you can spare. I'll
email you directly.

Thank you to everyone that responded; a couple of folks got me
set up with more spares than I think I'll ever need:

21 drives total.

Again, much appreciated. Except for my coworker who hauled
both packages up from the mail room, he didn't appreciate it :)

Gonna have to stage these home gradually in my backpack, dang.

Dang! Glad everyone came through. Pity I don't have a few to stuff in
my Sun Blade :D

Good to see posts from you again.

You have my sympathies - once I transported a decomissioned 18-CPU E6000 3
miles from work to home by disassembling it, lugging the pieces (in a large
backpack) on a 100cc motor-scooter, and then reassembling it all (minus the
56-inch datacentre cab, of course).

It took a couple of weeks altogether.
