It's an in-dash clock out of a 1998-02 Ford Crown Vic. What I need is the
pinout for the wires coming out the back, so I can wire it into the
radio harness for power and have a clock in my dash again - the
new radio I'm installing doesn't have a "persistent clock" feature.

Part number F8AF15000AB

One wire is black
One wire appears to be grey
One wire is white with purple stripe
One wire is green with yellow stripe

I figure black is ground. Otherwise
one of them has to be constant 12V,
one is "light up with dash", and the
other is "dim or bright"?

Google hasn't helped much.

Any ideas?

Hi Bill:
Cant help with this off the top of my head, but.....
Spend any time with a volt meter and check out the existing wiring?

Are there any Crown Vic auto forums you could tap into? For certain kinds
of cars there are 'enthusiasts' forms that are very informative...although
I am not sure that crown vic is one of those cars.

Try searching for a copy of the factory service manual and look at the
wiring diagrams. If you find a crown vic forum, perhaps someone there will
know where to get a copy of the FSM. You can also check of of the torrent
sites, but go in 'well armed'...lol

good luck

crownvic.net is pretty good but it took me months to actually get my
account approved, so your mileage may vary.

I'm going to guess one wire is constant 12V, one wire is switched 12V,
one wire is ground, and the remainder is dim. I didn't really see
rhyme or reason in the colors on my 86 Crown Vic's radio harness... if
I had to hazard a guess, I'd say black = ground, grey = dim, white w/
purple = switched 12V, green w/ yellow = constant 12V. I'd consider
stripping the wires and poking around, but if they use a lower voltage
than 12V for anything (I might suspect the 'dim' signal) you might be
in trouble if you start fooling around with it

Adam Sampson on geeks@ found exactly what I needed on CVN:

"Google Image Search can be better for this kind of problem -- searching
for "crown victoria clock" found this post:

http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2719645#Po
+st2719645

So it looks like black is ground, lime green/yellow is constant power,
white/violet is switched power..."
