[rescue] Sun 2.5" Disk Trays

Hello Sun fans - I've got a number of later Sun 2.5" SAS disks here,
and they use three different types of carrier/tray/"spud":

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7XzymDTNzU5AqWYs9

The only Sun I have of this era is a T2000, and unfortunately I have
only one of the trays that fit in it (the first one in my gallery).
Fortunately, there is an ebay seller offering a stack of them quite
cheaply ($4ea), so I bought enough to stock my machine.

Can anyone tell me what series Suns the other trays go to? They're
all sufficiently different from each other so as not to be
cross-compatible.

Thanks

-j

Not sure on #2, but #3 is what was used for X4xxx like my X4270. More
recent than the T2000.

Those drives should have part numbers somewhere (XXX-XXXX).
The first one seems to be 541-3531, which is listed for the M3000
(e.g. <http://www.tech-specifications.com/SunServers/M3000.HTML>).

Some vendors occasionally list the PN for the tray itself, such
as the 541-0239 for your T2000 (<https://www.memoryxsun.com/5410239mg.html>)

Last one with the button on the left could be for a T5120
<https://www.memoryxsun.com/5412123.html>).

Cordially,

I really should have known to look for a part number on the trays.
Thanks to both of you for the clues.

Don't leave us hanging, tell us what #2 and #3 really are :-)

I've updated the gallery post with the part numbers:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/7XzymDTNzU5AqWYs9

I suspect these trays went through a number of revisions and a number
of part number increments. And with at least one of them, there is a
number engraved in the metal and another on a sticker.

#2 is a Cisco drive: <http://www.vibrant.com/CISCO-800-35052-01.html>

#3 also fits the T5120, I have a bunch of those :-)

For at least #3, the 541-2123 is the PN for the tray. Then you
also get an FRU PN for the disk+tray combo (e.g. 540-7355
is a 146 GB drive for the T5120, including the tray). That may
be why you see multiple PN.

In general with Sun equipment, the sticker is the "whole-part number";
the numbers etched/silkscreened etc are subcomponent numbers that encode
the type/source of subcomponent (eg: 270-.... for PCBs).
